Witches Gate

Our client Mike asked us to re-imagine the tired facade of this large property in Alderley Edge and re-organise the living quarters. 

The first challenge was creating a sense of entrance – the existing facade had a poorly proportioned porch tacked on to the side of the house. 

We created a tiled floating plinth as the entrance step, inset into the entrance hall and installed a huge bronze pivot door. This created the wow factor Mike was looking for.

The front recess was clad in timber composite cladding and then a porcelain surround wrapped around the entrance onto the front and side elevations. The timber composite cladding was used to clad the garage doors to give the house a homogenous language of materials.

A series of projecting aluminium bays were used to frame large picture windows on the front facade which were then lined with walnut internally.

Inside the house we changed the staircase balustrading to a glass and oak design and created a series of dropped ceilings which helped break down the large spaces and provided a back drop for an impressive lighting scheme. 

The kitchen layout was simplified to have a straight run of units along the back wall with a huge island spanning the full length of the space – this helped define the zones for dining and sitting, as well as providing an informal eating area.

The project was an outstanding success as we created something truly bespoke and made the house work for our client without adding additional space.
