Our clients Antonia and Steve, appointed Kimble Roden to redesign the ground floor of their charming cottage. The transformation required reorganising the existing spaces to bring a more functional flow to the house whilst acknowledging the age and features of the cottage.
The journey began with a thoughtful design process led by Emma and Edwina, who collaborated with the client to craft a vision that was both modern and considerate to the home's heritage. Long, flowing hallways were introduced to connect rooms seamlessly and create open vistas that draw the eye. The original wood beams take centre stage, blending harmoniously with the new contemporary elements. We added a small extension to the side of the house so that the open plan kitchen living dining space could be relocated adjacent to the sheltered side terrace. We also introduced an exposed brick wall and slatted oak ceiling adding texture and a striking focal point to the kitchen.
During the building phase, Emma played a pivotal role, ensuring the project ran smoothly, stayed on schedule and was delivered within budget. The result is a beautifully balanced home that celebrates the cottage’s character while offering a fresh and functional layout tailored to our clients needs.
Antonia shared her experience with us:
"We have just completed a large renovation of the downstairs of our house. Kimble Roden Architects have been fabulous throughout. The initial design involving Emma and Edwina was exciting, stylish and sensitive to the old features in our home. During the build phase Emma was superb, organised, effective and really led our team of excellent builders. The build has been delivered on time and on budget. I would not hesitate to recommend Kimble Roden Architects."
