There is no doubt that the last few years have been economically challenging for much of the population.
Huge increases in energy prices, the cost of living crisis coupled with rising inflation and the hike in mortgage rates have had an impact on household budgets across the country.
But the economic outlook looks optimistic with lots of positive indicators and some clear examples of an improving picture.
We now have a new Government in office with a mandate for change and clearly there are some very positive signs in the economy with the easing pressures on the cost of living and lower interest rates. The latest comments from the PM about making some difficult decisions means there’s still some turbulence ahead but the outlook is still positive.
This will inevitably provide a smoother and more buoyant period as we move forward.
Lower interest rates should help ease some of the pressures on individuals’ finances, by lowering borrowing costs.
At the same time lower inflation means that some more wiggle room may open up in household budgets.
With the hope that the worst of the cost of living crisis is behind us, those who have been saving cash in anticipation of more pain to come could feel like they are now able to spend it.
So with this positive economic back-drop now could be the ideal time to embark on your refurb project or that new build you’ve always promised yourself.
Lower mortgage rates have undoubtedly put more optimism into the housing market.
We’ve seen this optimism play out already, with the FTSE 350 Construction and Materials index rising by 51.5% since the end of October last year, compared to a 16.2% rise in the FTSE 350 index as a whole.
The mantra ‘Improve, don’t move' seems even more attractive as homeowners have a great opportunity to invest in their current property, creating a living space to meet their changing needs safe in the knowledge that this investment could pay greater dividends further down the line.
Of course embarking on a refurb or new build project is not without its risks.
Working with a RIBA Chartered Architect reduces this risk, and instead has the potential to turn the journey of realising your vision both fun and exciting.
In the hands of a skilled architect, a house is transformed into a home that perfectly encapsulates the spirit and essence of its occupants.
The process of tailoring homes to the individual is an intricate balance of creativity, functionality and empathy.
It can be considered as an art form that transcends the blueprint and elevates a structure into a place where memories are made and lives are enriched.
Ultimately, the investment of time in the planning stage lays the foundation for a smooth construction process and a home extension or new build that not only stands the test of time, but looks great on the inside and out!
